Some basic information on children and teething: Baby's first tooth may erupt between 4 and 10 months. The first teeth to come in are usually the two lower central, followed by the two upper central. The primary (baby) set consists of 20 teeth. These start to come out around age 6, usually beginning with the lower front teeth. The last primary teeth to be lost, usually the second molars, come out around age 12. Permanent teeth start coming in around age 6, and have usually all erupted (except for wisdom teeth) by about age 12. Do you have children 18 months or younger? Then this information is important to you! Infants should have their gums wiped gently after each feeding with a soft washcloth or gauze pad. Start brushing your child's teeth as soon as they appear. Use a soft-bristled brush without toothpaste. First Check-ups: Your child's first check-up should take place by the age of three. It is a good idea to bring your child in for one of your own visits first. This lets us get acquainted before the actual check-up. Show your child that visiting the dentist is routine and fun. If you have any concerns or questions about your child’s dental care, please don’t hesitate to talk to us! |
